Hazardous Waste Collection Scheduled In Hoboken | Hoboken, NJ Patch

HOBOKEN, NJ — A fall household hazardous waste collection is scheduled in Hoboken, for residents to get rid of items they can't throw into trash cans.

This includes tires, computers, cleaning chemicals, vehicle batteries, pesticides, and some flammable items.

The household hazardous waste, computer and tire recycling is Sunday, Oct. 2 at the Hoboken Department of Public Works (at Willow Avenue and Observer Highway), from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the city said.

The Hudson County Improvement Authority has a total of four household hazardous waste collections scheduled next month: one Sunday, Oct. 2 at Gregg Park in Bayonne, and two Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Jersey City Municipal Service Complex and the Kearny Department of Public Works.

All four collection events are free, and will go on rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Acceptable items include: tires; pesticides; oil-based paint and paint products; automotive products (gasoline, motor oil, antifreeze); pool chemicals; degreasers and cleaners; mercury thermostats; fluorescent tubes; fire extinguishers; propane tanks "from BBQ grills only"); car batteries; and rechargeable batteries. Computers, monitors, cell phones, keyboards, tablets, cell phones, and computer mice are also accepted.

Unacceptable items include, but are not limited to: explosives, alkaline batteries, latex paint, compressed gas cylinders, infectious waste, ballasts, washers, dryers, refrigerators, air conditioners, other household appliances, and any over-the-counter or prescription drugs.
